English Heritage Research Transactions

English Heritage, the principal organisation statutorily responsible for the conservation of the historic built environment in England, is charged as one of its chief duties to secure the preservation of historic buildings and ancient monuments and to advance knowledge of their preservation.

This series of Research Transactions is published to fulfil these responsibilities and to make available to a wide audience the fruits of the extensive research English Heritage carries out. Each volume focuses on a specific material and presents primary findings from pioneering research, and from case studies carried out on the English Heritage Estate.

The Research Transactions are edited by members of the Building Conservation and Research team at English Heritage.
