Submission of manuscripts. Articles should be submitted by email to Julie Froud (julie.froud@manchester.ac.uk), or for the Reviews and Positions section to Tony Cutler (tony.cutler@rhul.ac.uk). Please ensure the text in the subject box reads 'Submission to Competition & Change'.
We prefer to receive submissions in Microsoft Word. Please do not save your files as 'text only' or 'read only'. All submissions will be subject to the normal process of peer review.
Contributors should note that material submitted to the journal must be original, must not have already appeared in another publication and must not be submitted for publication elsewhere while under consideration by the journal.
The title of the paper and the author(s') name(s) should appear on the first page, along with full contact details (postal address, email address, telephone and fax numbers) for the corresponding author. The second page of the paper should repeat the title. All pages should be numbered.
Please note that articles should normally be less than 9,000 words. Submissions for Reviews and Positions should normally be in the range 1,500 to 5,000 words. Please consult the editors if you have any queries about length.
Submission of final version. The final version of your paper should be submitted by email to Julie Froud (julie.froud@manchester.ac.uk). The file should be saved in Microsoft Word.
The final version of the article should be arranged in the following order: (i) title page; (ii) main text; (iii) acknowledgements; (iv) references; (v) endnotes; (vi) tables; (vii) figures. The title page should include: (i) title; (ii) names, institutional affiliations and email addresses for all authors; (iii) full contact details for corresponding author; (iv) abstract of 100 to 150 words that summarises the article's main points; (v) up to six keywords, suitable for indexing and on-line search purposes.
Headings Main headings should be in bold, with the first letter of all significant words capitalised. Leave a line between the heading and the next paragraph, with no tab. Second level headings should be in italicised and in sentence case. Start the following paragraph on the next line, with no tab.
Style Quotations in the text should be denoted using ' '. For longer quotations, please present the quote as a separate single-spaced, single indented paragraph, with no speech marks. Define abbreviations on first mention - use the word(s) in full, followed by abbreviation in parentheses e.g. National Health Service (NHS); thereafter use the abbreviation.
References Citations in the text should appear in the following form: either it has been argued (Morgan 2000) that or Morgan (2000) argues that If referring to a specific page or section, this should appear in the following form: (Morgan 2000:121) or (Rowntree 1902: 27-30).
References should be listed in alphabetical order. Where the references contain works by the same author(s) in different years, place these works in date order, starting with the oldest.
The following style should be adopted:
journal articles: Amin, A. and Thrift, N. (1992) Neo-Marshallian nodes in global networks, Journal of Urban and Regional Research, 16(4): 571587.
books: Scott, A.J. (1998) Regions and the World Economy (New York: Oxford University Press).

Notes Please keep the use of notes to a minimum. Use endnotes, indicated by superscript arabic numerals placed in the text and with the full set of notes placed at the end of the text.
Tables, figures, diagrams etc All tables, figures and diagrams should be sequentially numbered with captions and must include full notes and sources as appropriate. Number all tables using consecutive roman numerals (i.e. I, II, III ). Number all illustrations (e.g. figures and diagrams) using consecutive arabic numerals (i.e. Figure 1, Figure 2). Single space tables and avoid using vertical lines. All illustrations should be of high standard to allow direct reproduction. All figures should be in black and white. Place all tables, figures and diagrams at the end of your text, with each one on a separate page. Please indicate in the text the approximate positioning for each table or figures (e.g. insert table I about here).
Please consult the Editor if you require more detailed guidelines about the preparation of your manuscript for publication (julie.froud@manchester.ac.uk).
