Maney Publishing appoints leading

materials scientist as non-executive director

Leeds, UK, 27 November 2003:

Maney Publishing is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor John Wood FREng to the Board as a Non-Executive Director, with immediate effect.

A materials engineer by background, Professor Wood is currently on secondment from the University of Nottingham where he is Dean of Engineering and is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford. He has over 240 publications and 14 patents, has served as Chairman of the UK Government's Foresight panel (1997 - 2001) and was elected as a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 1999.

In 2001 Professor Wood was appointed Chief Executive for the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils (CCLRC), an independent, non-departmental public body of the Office of Science and Technology which itself is part of the Department of Trade and Industry. The CCLRC plays a key role in supporting high quality scientific and engineering research, providing advice and disseminating knowledge and promoting public understanding in the fields of science, engineering and technology.

Maney Publishing, founded in 1900, became official publisher to the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining in 2001 and has since established a leading international materials science and engineering portfolio comprising sixteen journals and over 200 books.

Michael Gallico, Managing Director of Maney Publishing, says:

“We are very pleased to welcome John to Maney. His knowledge and expertise in materials science and engineering will ensure that our publications remain at the cutting edge of research and development whilst his independent viewpoint will bring a new perspective to Maney's strategic development.”
