Physical Therapy Reviews special issue connects with theme of major WCPT conference

The latest issue of Physical Therapy Reviews from Maney Publishing is a special issue on World Physical Therapist Education. The issue was timed to coincide with World Physical Therapy 2007, the Congress of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT).

The issue contains papers on physiotherapy education in Australia, Canada, Greece, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan, Sweden, the UK and USA, and features a Guest Editorial from Professor A. Joseph Threlkeld, Creighton University, USA. Professor Threlkeld highlights the value of the experiences of individual physical therapists in revealing the state of physical therapy education around the world: “Clearly, these articles are written from the perspectives of the authors and have the flavour of the specific educational institution within which each author is based… Although each is based on objective data, the articles include the views and opinions of seasoned academics engaged in the front line of physical therapist education.”

Tracy Bury, Project Manager at the WCPT, praised the special issue as “…very timely and provided an excellent overview across a wide range of countries.” Education was one of the programme tracks central to the Congress theme of Moving Physical Therapy Forward, encompassing global change, challenges and opportunities for the profession of physical therapy and the governments, professionals and populations they work with. More than 3,500 physical therapists from around the world attended the 15th International Congress of WCPT in Vancouver, Canada from 2-6 June 2007.
