Society for Post-Medieval Archaeology conferences have consistently attracted the highest levels of scholarly participation from across the subject area. Diversity is achieved by joint meetings with other societies which explore shared interests and common goals and provide the broader contextual approach which characterises post-medieval archaeology in Britain. The publication of the Society's conference proceedings marks a logical step forward, by creating a permanent record of papers given. This not only ensures that the results of the latest research and scholarship are made available at the earliest opportunity, but also allows debate begun in the conference hall to continue into the future.
This new series will become, and will remain, an important record of the development of post-medieval archaeology and of the contemporary issues relevant to the discipline. It highlights the ability of the subject's practitioners to enter into constructive dialogues with scholars from other period or disciplinary backgrounds and bears witness to the healthy state of post-medieval archaeology in Britain and Europe. In short, the volumes in this series are destined to be both valuable works of scholarship and essential reference tools.
2003 saw the launch of the Society's monograph series, published under the Maney imprint. The first three volumes publish the proceedings of the Society's annual conference and are entitled:
Cities in the World, 1500-2000 (Monograph No. 3, Spring 2006)
The Archaeology of Industrialization (Monograph No. 2, 2004)
